DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTENTS OF THE MODULE

The course will introduce the key concepts and tools in digital design practice based on international cases as well as CITAís (Centre for IT and Architecture) own research projects. By combining the theoretical with the practical the course will emphasise earning at two levels:
Theory: Online seminars based on live lectures, given reading list and group discussion.
Practice:Project work combining 3D modelling and programming based on online tutorials and exercises. Students are introduced to the concepts, histories and skills of digital design practice through four key areas:
1) Digital tectonics: concepts and challenges,
2) Programming concepts: key concepts in programming,
3) Control of geometry: the writing of form, generative code
4) Open Code: integrating information streams in architectural design

 EXPECTED COMPETENCES AS LEARNING  OUTCOMES TEACHING METHODS EVALUATION METHODS
  1. Theoretical and critical knowledge in contemporary architectural design methods, digital tectonics, parametrics and programming.
  2. Basic skills in 3D CAD modelling introducing fabrication techniques.
  3. Basic skills in programming logics (processing).
Basic skills in programming geometry.

Online lectures and live seminar discussions on given reading lists.
Tutorials based on practical assignments and online exercises.
Final design project.

Participation in seminar discussions.
Hand in of weekly practical assignments. Design evaluation of final project submission.

 OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MODULE

The module is constructed around 4 key live seminar sessions with lecture presentations led by Mette Ramsgard Thomsen and Martin Tamke. In these discussions we will debate the technologies and concepts that inform digital tectonics.
